'Another Time . . . Another Place' - (Studio in N.C.)
[Mixed Media Painting]
Copyright 2003 richard w lubrich jr
In the years that have passed, i have often wondered what it would be
like to venture back in time . . . well . . . moving to the Carolina's has
provided me with an opportunity to do just that. In October - i will be
55 years old . . . and this allows me to return to when i was about five
years old (in New Jersey) though now in the Carolina's - it is just as it
was when i was younger - though @ present - i have a half a Century
of experience to back up the difference . . .
The environment is quite like when i was younger and i have a new
respect for life. My inspiration - with the environment - has, in short -
given me a new outlook - enabling me to Portrait 'how i see' and it
definitly re-defines my perspective on art per se . . .
The above work is inspired from my new Studio (in Old Historic Monroe, N.C.)
and it with great pleasure - that i have this Studio with Vann Secrest - one
of the original Family's that 'created' the Carolina's . . . i have much work
and inspiration here and look forward to creating 'An Artist's Document' -
regarding the Artists' that pursue their Art in this solemn environment . . .
In future Postings - i shall cover the Artists' that i have met and their works.
There are so many great artists and so much inspiration here - that it shall
be a sheer pleasure Portraiting these wonderful Artists and their lives
- in Another Place . . . Another Time.

-"REACTIONS" - An Exhibition Regarding September 11 . . .

"REACTIONS"
at Art Center College of Design
July 14 - August 25, 2002
. . . i received a notice the other day, from Exit Art in NYC - informing me that the 'Reactions' Exhibition was in California . . .
My friend, Drew Lesso told me that he would like to see the show - he informed me that another friend, Dr. Mongo was going with us . . . Well - we got to see the show ( i am a participant ) and i also saw other friends works there - including Kimmy McCann.
This Exhibition was very much the success and the 2500 works in the Exhibit are overwhelming - in due respect - to the fact that there are so many variations and methods incorporated into the artworks themselves - and the mere fact that there are so many works - this brings quite a statement, in effect, a message to the viewer . . .
It is undoubtedly one of the better shows that i have ever seen - mostly in part to do with the message . . .my advice . . .go see this show - before it leaves on it's tour . . .
A Bit of History :
In November, 2001, the New York organization Exit Art sent out over 10,000 calls via mail and email for responses to the World Trade Center tragedy, asking people how the events had altered their behavior and changed their perception of reality and the world around them. The only requirement was that submissions fit on an 8 1/2 X 11 size paper. The result includes drawings, collages, letters, diary entries, musical scores, photographs, and poems. Work by art world stars such as Robert Gober, Carolee Schneemann and William Wegman are displayed next to anonymous submissions in the over 2,500 works in the exhibit.
Reactions is a traveling exhibition organized by Exit Art, New York; project conceived by Popo Colo and Jeanette Ingberman; project coordinators Jodi Hanel and Bibi Marti.
Reactions is funded by a grant from Catharine and Jeffery Soros.
Additional support provided by Philip Morris, the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Jerome Foundation, The Greenwall Foundation, New York State Council for the Arts, and Exit Art members.

"Meetings with 'Remarkable' Men" -
The Gower Gulch Series (California)

. . . been frequenting Gower Gulch for 20 years. A recent encounter with another artist, Valerio Kopylenko - previously of The Gypsy Kings - had the sheer pleasure of listening to his latest compositions with his custom Ovation. Words cannot portrait this master musician's abilities. Valerio and his long-time friend, Robert Kazaryan - Hand tooled ship builder / artist / and designer of futuristic vehicles - are doing a session together in Los Angeles on Sunday [ March 3rd, 2002 ]. Robert had recently commissioned me to document / digitize his works of art / designs. The portfolios turned out, to everyone's delight, quite well. Robert has his own band - but will be performing with Valerio and one other musician. They have asked me to shoot / document the trio and i am looking forward to this session.
. . . Robert designed the Gower Gulch Walkway [ at the Amagi Restaurant ] - An awards ceremony with Hal Roach years ago provided him with great honor and a notoriety of sorts - since Gower has a history with the Entertainment Industry. Robert designed the restaurants menu as well. He has been working security at the Gulch for awhile now - while always remaining hard at work with his artwork and playing gigs with his band.

. . . ¿michael?- Artist / Screenwriter + a long - time friend of mine - had originally introduced me to The Gypsy Kings music and i have since been enthralled with their sound.
Go figure - that i would meet with the composer / guitarist - Valerio. Life is grand and so full of surprising situations - that are always overwelming and have a habit of binding my belief in art as somewhat of a 'healing process' for humanity. I look forward to further meetings with the remarkable genius' that have a habit of frequenting the Gulch.
More on ¿michael? in further Dialogues - I'll continue to update . . .
